Cookie Witts and Mary Knight contributed
food.
Brent Baker was unable to attend on the
actual day. He came the night before with the heavy equipment
to do the big jobs--(1) removing the large, dead pine tree from
the old cemetery and (2) removing the flagpole and its huge
cement base in order that a new one can be put in place by
Memorial Day.
Mary Lou Garrett furnished her kitchen so
the four "workers in the field" could eat. She also furnished
the mower and cart used for all purposes - especially removing
the debris created to the dumpster.
Becky Gansheimer
brought to her mother, Joanne, a mower from home
to use around stones in her area.
The four "workers in the field" on
Saturday had no problem finding jobs.
Joanne Sherr remained in the Old Cemetery,
weeding, mowing, preparing the grave of June Manfull for grass,
leveling the stone of Reuben P. Reynolds and uncovering the old,
homemade stone of Carl Cogan.
Donna Tucker worked weeding in the new
cemetery.
Terra Hansen of Columbus, OH, drove the
John Deere, gathered and disposed of the debris, did heavy labor
required for her grandmother, and was generally where someone
needed help.
Bette Brown primarily worked on removing
stones and debris from recent graves. There are three graves
that will still have to be prepared for grass and a fourth very
recent grave that will remain to settle for Memorial Day.
All in all, the work accomplished was
remarkable with the equipment and the workers available!
