On March 31, 2007 while installing the footstone for
Merna Toalston, Jeff Evans of Patton's Memorials, assisted by his
father, Jerry Evans, observed a nearby stone was in need of help.
They took the time to level the base and replace the top on the
stone of
Jehu and
Elizabeth Myers. The stone has been down for a very long time.
Although this is a temporary repair, it is a welcome improvement to the
Cemetery. Jeff's comment: "Jehu served his country in the Civil War for
three years. His stone needed to be upright."
The stone still needs to be re-installed. It is a large, lovely
stone and will require much work to move it aside and dig and pour an
adequate foundation that will hold the stone securely for years to come. So
it is still on the
Work List.
Augusta Cemetery and the community of Augusta appreciate the time and labor
these men donated to help preserve the history of Augusta Township.
